Fourth edition of the southern African Foot-and-Mouth Bulletin published
FMD Bulletins have been published and are now available on AfriVIP. The FMD Bulletins are products of the OIE Collaborating Centre for Training in Integrated Livestock and Wildlife Health and Management, and AHEAD of the Wildlife Conservation Society.

High Impact Diseases: Contagious and vector-borne diseases
PhD Celebration at the Faculty of Veterinary Science
Six PhD students graduated from our Faculty on Friday, 11 April 2014. Two days before the graduation we hosted a PhD celebration where each student had to give a 20 minute presentation on his/her thesis. The celebration was attended by Prof Swan, supervisors, family members, academic staff and other postgraduate students. Each presentation was followed by questions from the audience and thereafter Prof Swan congratulated each student on obtaining his/her PhD.
New educational resources available

Aardvark and Pangolin Research Collaboration
In February 2014 a group of researchers from a number of organizations, including the University of Pretoria, University of the Free State, Tshwane University of Technology, the National Zoological Gardens, E Oppenheimer and Sons and the African Pangolin Working Group, met at the Faculty of Veterinary Science, Onderstepoort, to discuss current and future research related to pangolin and aardvark. The purpose of the meeting was to establish who is currently involved and what research is being done on these two fascinating animals.
WSAVA Foundation Launches 'African Small Companion Animal Network'
The World Small Animal Veterinary Association (WSAVA) Foundation, which funds improvements in the veterinary care of companion animals worldwide through science and education, has unveiled a ground-breaking scheme to advance standards of veterinary care across Africa.
