Faculty of Veterinary Science hosts another successful Faculty Day

The Faculty of Veterinary Science recently hosted its annual Faculty Day, an event that provides its researchers an opportunity to present the results of their work and share it with colleagues and peers. A total of 18 oral and 13 poster presentations were on this year’s programme.

The prestigious Sir Arnold Theiler Memorial Lecture was delivered by Prof Marian C Horzinek, Professor Emeritus of Virology and Viral Diseases of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Utrecht University and former Director of the Graduate School of Animal Health, Utrecht University.

New Poultry Disease Management Agency (PDMA) and UP Research Poultry Chair launched in the Faculty of Veterinary Science

The new PDMA-UP Poultry Research Chair in the Faculty of Veterinary Science was recently launched by the Faculty and the South African Poultry Association (SAPA). This exciting collaborative partnership aims among other things, at conducting research on poultry diseases that have an impact on our economy.

RP-PCP / AHEAD Conference: Hwange, 12 - 15 May 2014

The RP-PCP platform and the AHEAD-GLTFCA initiative join hands to co-organise a TFCA conference

The conference will be held between the 12th and 15th of May 2014 at the Hwange Safari Lodge, Hwange district, Zimbabwe. It will be the occasion to meet, network, listen to oral presentations and read posters on research and development projects implemented within TFCAs, with a special focus on the GLTFCA and KAZA TFCA.

The Parasitological Society of Southern Africa (PARSA) is delighted to invite you to a three-day international congress on PARASITES OF WILDLIFE, to be held at the state-of-the-art Nombole Mdluli Conference Centre in Skukuza, the main tourist centre of the world-famous Kruger National Park. The optional fourth day (18 September 2014) will be devoted to workshops.

One Health Summer School: 13-26 July 2014, Faculty of Veterinary Science, University of Pretoria

The Faculty of Veterinary Science will host the second One Health Summer School from 13 – 26 July 2014.  Selected under- and postgraduate students from UCDavis, IOWA State University, Royal Veterinary College, Utrecht University, Southern African Centre for Infectious Diseases Surveillance (SACIDS), Research Platform - Production and Conservation in Partnership (RP-PCP), University of Zimbabwe and the University of Pretoria will attend a two week programme.  During their stay the students will be exposed to different One Health environments at the human/livestock/wildlife/e

African Veterinary Information Portal (AfriVIP) launched

On 18 February 2014 the first veterinary online open educational resources platform in Africa – the African Veterinary Information Portal (AfriVIP) was launched.    The event was attended by more than 100 invited guests, including 12 deans of faculties of veterinary medicine from East, Central and Southern Africa.  The Vice-Chancellor and Principal of UP, Prof Cheryl De la Rey, said during the launch that AfriVIP will enhance UP’s profile regionally and will make a difference locally and internationally.
