Some culicine mosquitoe species are of veterinary importance because they are vectors which transmit certain arboviruses to livestock causing disease and mortality. These viruses are Rift Valley fever (RVF), Wesselsbron (WSL), West Nile (WN), Eastern equine encephalitis (EEE), Western equine encephalitis (WEE) and Venezuelan encephalitis (VEE). All of them also cause human disease.
